JARCOLTM I-20 (OCTYLDODECANOL) - APPLICATIONS
COSMETIC: Octyldodecanol is an excellent base alcohol and emollient. Its extremely low melt point (0 degrees C) makes it much easier to work with than even lower molecular weight linear alcohols. Additionally the higher molecular weight and purity means that it is "water white" with no "fatty" odor and can be used in color and fragrance sensitive applications.
Octyldodecanol has been used historically “as is” serving as an emollient, dispersant, solubilizer in such cosmetic applications as creams, lotions, ointments, lipsticks, lip balms, antiperspirants, deodorants, hair fixatives and others.
Octyldodecanol is also used in derived products such as ethoxylates, polyglycolesters, fatty acid esters, silicone derivatives and polymers. These products also find their way into cosmetic applications serving as emulsifiers, emollients, dispersants, solubilizers, etc. Octyldodecanol also has good solvent properties for active ingredients.
PHARMACEUTICAL: Due to Ocytldodecanol’s mean spreading value, the product can be universally applied in cosmetic and pharmaceutical skin care preparations, such as slightly fatting emulsions and skin oils. Due to its chemical structure, Octyldodecanol is stable to hydrolysis and can therefore be used easily in both the acidic and alkaline pH ranges.
Octyldodecanol is historically used in many pharmaceutical and OTC ointments, creams and lotions. Octyldodecanol serves as and excellent emollient and solubilizer for active ingredients in enhanced drug delivery systems.
INDUSTRIAL: Octyldodecanol is also used in many industrial applications, either “as is” or derived in ethoxylates, fatty acid esters, and many other proprietary reacted molecules.
Octyldodecanol finds its way into HI&I, Metal processing, Textile lubricants, Industrial Lubricants, Printing Inks, Surfactants, Monomers and Polymers, Agriculture, and many other new and exciting applications that are constantly being developed.
